MINISTER’S CORNER

February 2010 In this season of love, we share our gifts of peace with our world. Here we are again in the month of love. I thank all of you who gave so much over the holidays. Your generosity has and will be rewarded. In our circle, we say you cannot out-give God, and how true that is. Last month, at our board meeting, we approved our outreach ministry to the Soldiers of the Cross organization. Many thanks are given to all who supported our goals. The church is still growing. We have new members and lots of visitors. We thank all of our members for their God-given talents. Our very own, Marian Curtis is back playing the piano after surgery on her shoulder. Many thanks go to Rachel who stepped up and played for during Marian’s absence. I have found out that to experience love in the world, I first had to know love within myself. Real love emanates from our individual expression of the love of God within translates to right action love in our day-to-day living. As I follow divine love to remove all fear, I understand that peace is mine for the receiving. Allowing God’s love to take hold in my heart and mind, I am empowered to share my gifts of peace with you. By sharing of myself and listening to others, I show compassion and kindness. As I allow myself to accept, enjoy, and appreciate my loved ones, a divine peace emerges from me. It allows me to reach out and expand love to all who are in my world.

Your humble servant, Rev. Ken Leppell

Happy Valentines Day! Let us not forget Presidents Day. There is so much going on in February. February is a month of Love, hope and celebration. The Lord has given us a heart filled with a huge, never-ending capacity for love. Why wait for special occasions to express that love? The greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all of your mind and with all of your soul. The second is like unto it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” How can we do this if we are afraid to tell someone how we feel? Or are we inappropriate with our motives? By putting God first in our lives, doing according to His way of life, we then learn to love ourselves and not do things which will draw negative reactions to the core of our lives. Love is the way to overcome negative things inside us.  Loving God prepares me to first learn how to love me, then you. When we pray for right thinking and direction, we are on the right track. Then we learn to do the next right thing according the God’s way of life, not our own seeking recognition and satisfaction from the world. I wish Happy Birthday to everyone who have birthdays in February, and those who had birthdays in January. So let’s do little things all year to show our love for each other. Thank you for your love for yourself and me.

Love in Christ,

Rev. Kay Leppell

POETRY CORNER

Slow Me Down, Lord

Ease the pounding of my heart,

By the quieting of my mind.

Steady my hurried pace with

A vision of eternal time.

Give me amid the confusion of

The day, the calmness of the

Everlasting hills.

Break the tension of my nerves and

Muscles with the soothing music

Of the singing streams that live in my memory.

Help me to know the magical

Restoring power of sleep.

Teach me the art of taking minute

Vacations – of slowing down to

Look at a flower, to chat with

A friend, to pat a dog,

To read a few lines from a good book.

Slow me down Lord, and inspire

Me to send my roots deep into

The soul of life enduring

Values that I may grow toward

The stars of my greater

Destiny.
